The Golden Mile of Galway

The Golden Mile of Galway is a countywide project which encourages rural communities to come together to identify a mile long stretch of road in their local area and to recognise and celebrate the elements that make up our rural roadways, stonewalls, flora and fauna. This initiative has been rolled out on an annual basis since 2004 by Galway Rural Development Company Ltd and Galway County Council in partnership with Comhair na nOileán Teo. and FORUM Connemara.

A set of training videos has been produced by two of the longstanding judges of the competition, Christy Cunniffe and Zena Hoctor. Please see link below:

Welcome to the Galway Rural Development website. Galway Rural Development, through the programmes we administer, will continue to work along with other agencies, groups and individuals around the county to improve the quality of life for all citizens in our area. We especially wish to work with those who are most in need of assistance, to provide real opportunities for people to gain significant improvements for themselves and their communities throughout rural Galway.
