Milltown is a small village, 30 miles from Galway City and situated along the N17 main Galway to Sligo road and on the banks of the Clare River.

The local community have carried out substantial works to improve the amenities for the village, by providing a beautiful river walk (National Waterside award winner 2000), competing in the Tidy Towns competition each year, providing a Slí na Sláinte rural walk, childrens playground, tennis courts, picnic area and car parking facilities. Their efforts have been rewarded by the National Tidy Towns Organisation, by being awarded the tidiest town in the county for seven consecutive years, including 2002.

Milltown Community Council has been very active in promoting and developing their parish, the most significant achievement to date being the building of a Community Centre, which is a place for the young and old to learn, enjoy and participate in many varied activities. A campaign has also been launched to encourage industrialists to locate businesses in Milltown, with an offer of sites at below market value in an industrial park off the busy N17 route.

Welcome to the Galway Rural Development website. Galway Rural Development, through the programmes we administer, will continue to work along with other agencies, groups and individuals around the county to improve the quality of life for all citizens in our area. We especially wish to work with those who are most in need of assistance, to provide real opportunities for people to gain significant improvements for themselves and their communities throughout rural Galway.
