GRD CEO named as Community Champion
Coordinated by The Wheel / Irish Rural Link, a ‘Covid Community Outreach’ has been established by the government to mobilise a network a network of Community Champions across the 26 counties.
The individuals chosen have strong existing links within their local areas, experience of engaging with community organisations and volunteers, and are in ongoing contact with those that the programme seeks to support.
Steve Dolan, CEO of Galway Rural Development, has been chosen as the Community Champion for County Galway and he will lead the efforts to combat the virus with the County Forum and partner organisations.
Speaking on his appointment, Steve said “We know that many of the people we work with are struggling with the isolation, employment, or other issues associated with the current restrictions and we’re here to help.”
“Services across the county are now responding rapidly to current circumstances and community and voluntary organisations are supporting vulnerable individuals and community groups wherever needed.”
Galway Rural Development has links to a lot of local support during Covid-19. Contact Galway Rural Development's Information Officer at firstname.lastname@example.org or message on Facebook and we can get an officer to help put you in touch with a local service.
Meanwhile, Galway County Council is also co-ordinating organisations across the county and a dedicated community support helpline is available from 9.00am-6.00pm, 7 days a week, at 1800 92 88 94 or 091-509390 or email email@example.com.
