Galway City of Film wants Community Groups

Galway City of Film invites community, social and voluntary groups from Galway city and county to take part in an exciting film project that will enable communities to make their own documentary. This ID Film Project is run by Galway Film Centre in partnership with Galway City Council and Galway County Council. Since the year 2000 Galway Film Centre have worked with over seventy community groups giving people from a wide range of backgrounds access to the inside track of the documentary film-making process.

All equipment and technical back-up will be provided by Galway Film Centre in exchange for time, enthusiasm and ideas from community groups who wish to document their own story.Groups hoping to participate in the projects should have a unique voice, which encapsulates their community, tradition, spirit, lifestyle, views and culture. The selected groups must be able to make a significant time commitment over the summer months (June to September). The program is however, very flexible and can be tailored to suit the availability of selected group members.

ID Film Projects aim to document a broad range of issues and social subjects by empowering groups to tell their own stories. This is done by giving participants basic foundation training and hands-on experience in the areas of writing, directing, camera, sound and editing. The groups then tell their own stories based on the common theme of identity. Galway Film Centre will give professional advice and support to the selected group throughout the entire production process. All equipment and technical advice will be provided and there will be no financial cost for the participating group. The audio-visual medium gives people immediate access to a multitude of skills and is a powerful tool in enabling communities to explore, develop and express their individual and collective creativity.

The selection of groups for the ID Film Project is on a competitive basis so it is advisable to contact the Galway Film Centre for advice on the application process. The closing date is Friday May 15th and an application form can be requested by email from info@galwayfilmcentre.ie or contact Galway Film Centre on (091) 770748. Over seventy ID Film Projects are available to view at http://www.galwayfilmcentre.ie/id-films/
