Buddy Bench programme launched on October 19th, in Scoil an Chroí Naofa , Ballinasloe

Galway Rural Development - Monday, October 10, 2016

Accessibility Ballinasloe are launching a pilot project which will see all 275 students from Scoil an Chroí Naofa, Ballinasloe participate in the Buddy Bench Programme. GRD are delighted to be a member  of the Accessibility Ballinasloe Committee and through the pooling of resources, along with other members, this collaborative project has been able to come to fruition.

Buddy Bench is a positive Mental Health programme for schools where a bench is used as a visual tool for children to use if they are experiencing any personal difficulties or feelings that they might need help or support with.

Buddy Bench can help children to release the stigma of asking for help, celebrate students who act with compassion and kindness and foster students in developing conflict-management skills, thus relieving anxiety, stress and feelings of isolation.

Men's Shed in Ballinasloe kindly made the bench and the Service Users from the Brothers of Charity used their creative talents to decorate the bench to ensure it is a valued and visual delight for the students in Scoil an Chroí Naofa.

The project will launch on October 19th in Scoil an Chroí Naofa as part of Social Inclusion Week, 2016.
