Village and Countryside Renewal and Development

The focus of this measure is to enhance the economic and social attractiveness of villages, small towns and the surrounding countryside.

GRD will continue to support the preservation of the unique local environment of rural villages and follow national best practice.  All actions under this measure involving public areas must be agreed in advance with the local authority.

Examples of activities that can be supported include:

• Environmental upgrading e.g. upgrading parks, civic areas, and river walks etc.
• Access facilities to amenities
• Public utilities such as street lighting etc.
• General appearance upgrading such as ornamental paving, street art, ornamental lighting, etc.
• Farmers markets.

Activities that are not supported by GRD include:

• Water, sewage and major road works
