Training and Information

The focus of this measure will be to equip rural dwellers and communities with the appropriate range of skill and training to ensure maximum social and economic benefit. All previous Measures may be complemented by relevant training opportunities. This may include training and mentoring support for enterprises (before and after setting up) and community groups.

It is a policy of GRD to ensure that training takes place in accessible venues and locations and that, where possible, it is accredited. Training will be supported where it meets an identified need and provides specific social and/or economic benefits to the locality.

GRD has identified priority actions for enterprise / community training in the following areas:

  • Farm diversification, including rural and agri tourism
  • Forest owners and wood energy sector
  • Traditional skills i.e. thatching, lime, stonewall building
  • Renewable energy
  • Ecotourism
  • Tour guide and tourism business development
  • Business and enterprise development
  • Biodiversity
  • Local heritage and traditions
  • Community waste reduction and energy efficiency
  • Community awareness/ empowerment
