Conservation and Upgrading of the Rural Heritage

The focus of this measure will be to develop an integrated approach towards protecting and upgrading the rural heritage resources of the region, including natural, constructed, or cultural; to enhance the rural quality of life and also to provide economic benefits to rural communities (e.g. through tourism)

Examples of activities that can be supported include:

  • Assistance to develop integrated plans, as required, for the restoration and development of locally significant natural areas and areas of environmental significance.
  • Promotion of events and attractions which celebrate local heritage or engage in community environmental actions.
  • Preservation and development of vernacular architecture and aspects of the physical/built heritage following good practice.
  • Publications that follow a preparation process which identifies that the community involved have benefited from the skills acquired e.g. IT, research and editing.
