Community & Voluntary Groups

Galway Rural Development plays an active role in supporting and working with local Community Groups to develop new initiatives for their area.  We believe that all communities should have a voice and we welcome an opportunity to support the development of facilities both physical and structural within rural communities.

Under the Local Community Development Programme, support can be given to local community and voluntary groups.

Community Development Officers work within the community to assess the needs and address disadvantage and social inclusion within the area.  Support is given to the establishment of new community based projects and initiatives.

The Rural Development Programme provides support and funding for capital investment in community services and facilities, heritage and enhancement projects and feasibility studies etc.

The Rural Social Scheme provides income support to Farmers by utilising their skills on a part time flexible employment basis.  Work is carried out on community enhancement projects such as;  village and countryside maintenance work, care for the elderly and restoration work on cultural and heritage sites.
