Mountbellew

Mountbellew is a small market town on the main Galway-Roscommon road, 17 miles northwest of Ballinasloe. Some of the interesting features in the town include the town square and Mountbellew Bridge, which were designed by Sir Henry Grattan- Bellew.

There are some interesting natural amenities in the area, such as Coillte forest walks, Castlegar River and river park and man made lake with a bird sanctuary. Mountbellew Agricultural College, which provides training for young farmers, was opened by the Franciscans in 1904 and around the same time the Mountbellew Agricultural Co-operative was established, with Sir Henry Grattan-Bellew and Brother Joseph Daly of the Franciscans as principal founders
