Headford
Headford , incorporating the townlands of Claran and Clydagh, is within a few miles of Lough Corrib, and is an excellent fishing area. Of the several historic sites in the area, the most imposing are the ruins of the 15th century Ross Abbey, which appears to have been in continual use through many years of strife, up until the early years of the eighteenth century. Also to be seen are the 12th century Killursa, built on an earlier site dedicated to St. Fursa whose visions were said to have inspired Dante; the lakeside Greenfields, associated with Brendan the Navigator, and the 13th century Carraigin Castle.
