Ballymoe

Ballymoe is a small village situated on the N60, close to the Galway-Roscommon border and the River Suck. Ballymoe derives its name from a fort which was erected by Queen Maeve of Connaught along the River Suck, under the command of Mogh. Later the fort and village became known as Átha Mogh Mór and later Béal Átha Mogh.

Ballymoe is the centre of a small rural area involved in small scale mixed farming. It has examples of natural history such as raised bogs, forts and a mass rock from penal times. The Suck Valley way-marked walk passes through the village.
